About us

Welcome to De Bootjes van Gent - Rederij Dewaele. As a real Ghent family business, we do our utmost so every visitor can enjoy our beautiful city.

Below we would like to tell you who we are, what we do and what we stand for. Please read on, or even better: just meet us in person.

What do we do?

Be enchanted by the beauty of Ghent from the water and experience our historic city from a special perspective.

With our enthusiastic guides and various boat trips we offer an activity that can please everyone. You can discover Ghent with a city boat trip, a taxi ride or the hop-on-hop-off water tram.

The bootjes van Gent are the ideal place to get a breath of fresh air and recharge your batteries. That is what we would like to experience together with you.

Who are we and where do we come from?

When Luc Dewaele and his wife founded the bootjes van Gent in 1978, our identity was immediately clear: a real Ghent family business with a warm heart for guided boat trips through our beautiful city.

Now, so many years later, we still set great store by those values. The basic recipe has never been turned upside down, but it has been constantly improved, with success.

In the city of seven waterways, we show every visitor around with great passion and a smile, and that has been rewarded with leading awards:

·         “Best Boat Tour of the Year” Travel & Hospitality Awards, 2019

·         “Boat Tour Agency of the Year” Luxury Travel Guide Awards, 2020

·         “Cruise Company of the Year” Travel & Hospitality Awards, 2022

·         Winner “Belgium Prestige Awards”, 2022

·         “Best Boat Tour of the Year” Travel & Hospitality Awards, 2024

What do we stand for?

At de bootjes van Gent, we are always looking ahead. In addition to being an established value on the Ghent waterways, we are also a pioneer in the field of sustainability.

We must cherish our environment, which is why we sail more and more with zero emission boats. Our electric boats have room for 200 people. That makes us a top player in Belgium when it comes to electric passenger transport on water.
